This past weekend, I travelled to Western Michigan for my family reunion. On Friday morning, my niece and I left just after 6 a.m. This is the sunrise we saw early in our journey.
After spending the day at Michigan Adventure, some of us paused to take a picture with Snoopy himself! The weather was great, but the time seemed to go by too fast!
Games and visiting are a big part of our day on Saturday. The weather was not ideal (very windy and rainy) but we didn't let it stop us from having fun. Several even still went to the beach since there was not any lightning.
The kids really enjoyed trying out the in-line skates that someone brought.

The wind was so strong that there were whitecaps. The waves were going over the pier even at the beach end! This did stop us from our tradition of walking out to the lighthouse.
Every year we have a theme for the reunion. This year was "Retro" so we brought back various things from previous reunions. One of my aunts dressed up since she saw relatives from the "olden days" that were dressed in their Sunday best. Here several cousins big and small trying to drop clothes pins into a milk bottle. There were many different strategies.
The limbo has become a main staple of the reunions. I love seeing the tall cousins bend their bodies out of shape to make it under the bar while the little ones just run right under without thinking!
I'm not exactly sure what was going through each of their minds, but I have to say that this is my favorite picture from this year's reunion! It makes me laugh every time I see it!
The egg toss was a smash this year. Many of us cracked up watching the competition take place...anticipating who would get yolked next.
The auction was brought back again this year. When I was little I remember my dad being the auctioneer. This year one of my uncles did the honors until his throat got a little horse. Then one of my cousin's took over.
For lunch we have a potluck, but we always grill out for supper.
This was the top item auctioned...a painting of the Muskegon lighthouse painted by one of my aunts.
Besides the auction, the other thing that I remember from reunions in my childhood that returned this year is the vanilla ice cream that comes in individual cups that you eat with a wooden stick.
Even though we couldn't walk out to the lighthouse, we went down to the beach to watch the sun set. You can see in the picture below that the waves were going over the pier. We were not there long when it began to pour down rain!
On my way home, I stopped by another cousin's house and got to see her and her family. Here I am with her son that was born on my birthday. Below is one of his brothers.
It was a fun and tiring weekend. Only one more year until the next one!

Thanks for the reunion in review. Also for including Pierce and Ty. It was a great weekend. So much to do in so little time.
I enjoyed the pictures, espcially the one of the pier Saturday night. We didn't get down there, but with as windy as it was I was pretty sure it would be a sight!
